Whistlefish was established as a kitchen table enterprise in 1996 by Lyn Thompson. Lyn hand painted greetings cards that were sold at local craft fairs throughout Cornwall. With a small loan and some help from The Prince’s Trust Lyn was able to transform her hobby into a fully fledged business.
The £3,500 loan helped pay for a print run of cards, a fax machine, a new table to work on and a year later her first gallery in St Ives. The business has expanded year on year and there are now eleven galleries across the South West.
Exceptional art at an affordable price is the main aim. Each gallery sells an original collection of greeting cards and artwork. From the outset Whistlefish gives opportunities to talented local artists whilst keeping prices low for its customers.
Every piece of art is handmade in Whistlefish’s own framing workshop in the heart of Cornwall. This allows our craftspeople to offer unrivalled quality and the most attractive frame for any given print.
