The company owes its inspiration to Maggie Swanson, a born entrepreneur who took a day in the life of every young mother and turned it into a business opportunity. Having just relocated from Los Angeles to Wilmington Delaware, Maggie was nine months pregnant with baby #3 and quietly dreading the idea of dragging two toddlers into the local stationery store to buy new birth announcements. Only days before her due date, Maggie shot out of bed at 3AM with a revelation: stationery shopping should be about convenience and the internet could provide the perfect platform. Maggie spent the rest of the night confirming her hunch; there was not one website that provided customized, personalized invitations and announcements on the web. She began immediately buying up domain names and www.finestationery.com was born.
Maggie enlisted the help of her husband Matt to develop the business plan, financials and infrastructure needed to launch the company. Matt's extensive background in business development working for such high profile companies as Borden, Time Warner and Universal Studios enabled them to quickly develop a strategy that would work. Maggie quickly moved on to building a customer service team, choosing the best vendors to work with and developing the interactive web experience that has come to define the company's dedication to customer ease and convenience.
The depth of product offered on the site is without rival and includes such well-known brands as Crane & Co., William Arthur and Vera Wang. The Fine Stationery team is always looking for new innovative designers and brands and is the exclusive home for brands such as Real Simple, 14 and Orange and PostScript Press, as well as plethora of independent designers, each with their own unique style and flair.
